For the 25th Serpentine Pavilion, Lanza Atelier presents 'a serpentine,' a design inspired by the landscape and legacy of the commission. The structure adopts the crinkle-crankle brick wall tradition from English garden architecture, translating its undulating form into a continuous, flowing pavilion. This approach creates an intimate, sheltered space that responds to the natural contours of the site while drawing on historical building practices. The design emphasizes fluidity and integration with the surrounding environment, using repetition and curvature to generate both visual interest and functional enclosure.
The pavilion’s form is not merely aesthetic but deeply connected to material and spatial experience. By reinterpreting a centuries-old technique through contemporary architectural language, the project establishes a dialogue between past and present. The use of brick reinforces a tactile, grounded quality, linking the structure to local craftsmanship and vernacular forms. Ultimately, the design reflects a thoughtful engagement with context—geographic, cultural, and historical—resulting in a space that feels both timeless and forward-looking.
