The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has issued an urgent appeal for increased financial assistance from Western nations as Ebola cases escalate in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. Director General Jean Kaseya highlights the critical need for enhanced funding to support containment efforts directly in affected areas. These resources are essential to prevent further fatalities through effective medical response and on-the-ground support.
Kaseya also cautions against relying on border closures as a means of controlling the outbreak, stating that such measures are unlikely to stop the virus's spread. Instead, the priority remains securing adequate resources to manage the crisis within the impacted regions. The Africa CDC stresses that investment in health interventions and field operations is more effective than isolationist approaches in combating the Ebola resurgence.
