A widespread, leaderless movement called the Flamingo Revolution is gaining momentum in Albania as locals protest against a proposed $4 billion luxury resort. The development is planned along the protected Adriatic coastline and is linked to the Trump family, specifically Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner. The project, reportedly financed through Qatari connections, has raised concerns over environmental harm and the loss of national heritage in a country with a population of just 2.4 million.
This grassroots protest challenges the government's role in facilitating privatization that benefits high-profile international figures. The movement represents a significant test of civic power against the influence of global political and business elites in the Balkans. The outcome could determine whether local citizens can successfully oppose a development backed by powerful interests and reshape Albania’s approach to preserving its natural and cultural resources.
