In Thailand, Anonym Studio has unveiled Saikhoo House, a striking residential project that challenges traditional architectural norms by weaving the home around a pair of pre-existing, ancient banyan trees. Rather than clearing the landscape, the architects utilized these natural sentinels as the structural anchors for the residence, creating a seamless transition between the interior living spaces and the surrounding tropical environment.
The design prioritizes biophilic principles, utilizing open-air terraces and courtyards to facilitate natural ventilation and offer residents a constant connection to nature. By leveraging the dappled light and cooling effects provided by the banyan canopy, the house achieves a comfortable, sustainable living space that responds effectively to the local climate.
