Content overview: “Apu and Manjula Return to The Simpsons After 9 Years with New Voice Actors”. After nearly a decade away, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon and his wife Manjula are back on The Simpsons as full characters, now voiced by Sunil Malhotra and Janina Gavankar. The couple last appeared in 2015, and their return marks a significant shift for the long-running series, which faced intense criticism over Apu's stereotypical portrayal. The controversy, sparked by the 2017 documentary The Problem with Apu, led to a broader conversation about representation in animation.
By recasting the roles with South Asian actors, the show aims to address past concerns while reintegrating beloved characters. Fans will see how the series balances its legacy with modern sensibilities, and whether this revival can satisfy both longtime viewers and critics who demanded change.
