“Apu Speaks Again on The Simpsons After Nearly a Decade of Silence” — what this page in the network covers. After almost ten years, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon has spoken on The Simpsons once more. The character, voiced by Hank Azaria, had been largely absent following the 2017 documentary The Problem with Apu, which criticized the show for racial stereotyping. Azaria later stepped down from voicing the character, and Apu’s appearances became rare and silent.
Now, in a recent episode, Apu delivers a brief line, marking his first spoken dialogue since 2015. This development is significant for fans and critics alike, as it suggests a possible shift in how the long-running series handles the controversial character. While the show has not announced any permanent changes, Apu’s return to speaking has reignited discussions about representation and whether the character can be reimagined.
