Four young women have bravely shared their experiences of sexual abuse and harassment at the Army Foundation College in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. The accounts include severe incidents such as prolonged assault by fellow junior soldiers and other cases of groping and intimidation. These events reportedly took place over the last five years, involving victims who were mostly 17 years old at the time. The survivors describe a hostile atmosphere where blame was often placed on victims, while offenders faced minimal repercussions.
An investigation reveals that North Yorkshire Police have received 16 reports of sexual offences related to the college, highlighting concerns about the institution’s culture and response to such allegations. The Ministry of Defence has acknowledged the seriousness of the claims and has introduced safeguarding measures. Nonetheless, critics emphasize the need for further action to protect young recruits and ensure accountability.
