The Avignon Theatre Festival marks its 80th anniversary this year in the south of France, continuing its legacy as a premier event for innovative performing arts. This edition places a unique emphasis on Korean culture, featuring contemporary drama, dance, and literary pieces by Korean artists. The festival maintains its reputation for presenting cutting-edge works that probe deep into human experiences and emotions.
Among the standout performances is Julien Gosselin’s technologically advanced staging of ‘Maldoror’ at the historic Palais des Papes, offering a complex literary investigation into themes of evil. Egyptian director Ahmed El Attar also contributes with his latest production, which explores notions of anger, defiance, and the essence of humanity. Through these diverse presentations, the festival reaffirms its position as a vibrant international platform for artistic expression and cultural exchange.
