A closer look at “Ben Affleck and Kerry Washington Clash in Netflix’s ‘Animals’ — A Kidnap Thriller That Los”, exactly as the source publishes it. Netflix’s new thriller ‘Animals’ brings Ben Affleck and Kerry Washington together as a wealthy couple whose son is kidnapped, but critics say the film stretches its tension too thin. Directed by an unnamed filmmaker, the movie reworks Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 classic ‘High and Low’, which also inspired Spike Lee’s 2024 update ‘Highest 2 Lowest’ starring Denzel Washington. Unlike those films, which used the kidnapping to explore social class and moral compromise, ‘Animals’ focuses on the couple’s marital conflict and the strain of the crisis.
Affleck and Washington are both known for intense dramatic roles, and their on-screen arguments are the film’s centerpiece. However, reviewers note that the screenplay spends so much time on their personal battles that the kidnapping plot loses urgency.
