Content overview: “Buffalo Bills' First-Round CB Kaiir Elam Sinks to CB4 on Depth Chart After Week 5 Benching”. The Buffalo Bills' 2022 first-round pick, cornerback Kaiir Elam, has fallen to fourth on the team's depth chart following a Week 5 demotion against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Elam, selected 23rd overall out of Florida, played just nine defensive snaps in the loss, while veteran Josh Norman and practice-squad call-up Ja'Marcus Ingram saw increased roles opposite starter Christian Benford. Head coach Sean McDermott cited 'consistency and fundamentals' as reasons for the reduced workload, signaling waning confidence in the 22-year-old.
Elam has allowed a 71.4% completion rate and a 118.3 passer rating when targeted this season, per Pro Football Focus. With the Bills' secondary allowing 274 passing yards per game (29th in the NFL), the coaching staff is prioritizing reliability over potential.
