The annual White House Correspondents' Dinner was abruptly halted Saturday night when gunshots were reported in the lobby of the Washington Hilton Hotel, sending shockwaves through the assembled press corps and political elite. President Trump and his family were immediately evacuated as security protocols initiated a lockdown of the venue.
Journalists in attendance shared real-time accounts of panic and confusion, describing the jarring sound of gunfire interrupting the celebratory atmosphere. Law enforcement quickly secured the area and launched an investigation into the source of the shots, which were reported away from the main ballroom. While no immediate fatalities or widespread injuries were confirmed, the incident underscores significant security vulnerabilities and casts a pall over the traditionally high-profile event.
