This video features a detailed conversation between Oliver Farry and Serena Ferrari, an economist and researcher at CIRAD, focusing on desertification and methods to mitigate it. They highlight how climate change, combined with economic and political decisions like intensive water use and chemical farming, intensifies stress on vulnerable ecosystems. Mongolia serves as a case study where pastoralist communities endure increasingly severe environmental conditions. The discussion emphasizes practical measures such as reforestation, sustainable management of land and water, and agroecological approaches to reverse land degradation.
The importance of engaging local populations and valuing their traditional knowledge is stressed as essential for success. Additionally, the video covers the policy reforms necessary at both national and international levels to support these efforts. Providing expert analysis and concrete examples, this presentation offers a thoughtful perspective on environmental preservation and combating climate change, making it valuable for anyone interested in sustainable land use and ecosystem protection.
