“Dave Bautista’s Sci-Fi Revival: New Film Rebounds from 2025 Flops on Rotten Tomatoes” — what this page in the network covers. Dave Bautista is making a strong comeback in the sci-fi genre with his latest film, which has earned critical acclaim on Rotten Tomatoes—offering redemption after two underperforming genre releases in 2025. The new movie, titled Stellar Drift, marks a turning point for the actor, who faced harsh reviews for Nova Horizon and Chrono Rift, both of which scored below 30% on the review aggregator. With Stellar Drift, Bautista delivers a nuanced performance as a stranded astronaut navigating an alien ecosystem, earning praise for its emotional depth and visual storytelling.
Critics highlight the film’s strong direction by debut filmmaker Lila Chen and its thought-provoking themes around isolation and human resilience. The turnaround is significant not just for Bautista’s career trajectory but also for the broader sci-fi landscape, where audiences are increasingly demanding more than spectacle.
