Content overview: “Diego Gómez halfway-line wondergoal seals Brighton's 5-0 rout of Crystal Palace”. Brighton delivered a statement 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace at the Amex, with Paraguayan midfielder Diego Gómez scoring a stunning goal from the halfway line reminiscent of David Beckham's famous strike. The result ended a four-match winless run against their bitter rivals and marked Fabian Hürzeler's first derby win as Brighton head coach. The Seagulls, who are the Premier League's top scorers this season, were gifted an early lead through Jaydee Canvot's own goal and raced to a 3-0 advantage within 10 minutes.
Gómez's spectacular effort was the highlight of a dominant performance that underscored Brighton's flying start under Hürzeler. For Crystal Palace, the heavy defeat deepens concerns over their form and defensive fragility. The Eagles had not lost by such a margin to Brighton since a 4-1 defeat in February 2024, and this result will raise questions about manager Oliver Glasner's tactics.
