The Red Bull Soapbox Race returned to Alexandra Palace in London, bringing together inventive engineering and playful creativity. What started as simple wooden crate races in the 1940s has evolved into a sophisticated event featuring advanced steering mechanisms and imaginative costumes. Participants are judged not only on their speed but also on the originality and flair of their creations.
BBC Tech Now followed a team of engineering students, the youngest competing group this year, as they applied their academic skills to build a vehicle tailored to handle the course’s challenging bends and ramps. Their experience highlights how technical knowledge can be combined with fun and innovation in a real-world competition setting.
