Disney’s live-action adaptation of Tangled is in development, with production expected to begin in late 2026. The project is being led by director Adam Shankman, known for his work on musical films like Hairspray and The Wedding Planner. While casting details remain under wraps, the film will stay true to the original animated story’s core elements, including Rapunzel’s magical hair and her journey of self-discovery. Production is set to take place primarily in California, with plans to incorporate practical effects alongside digital enhancements.
The screenplay is being written by David Magee, who previously worked on Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns. The movie is scheduled for a theatrical release in summer 2028. Though no official cast has been announced, industry insiders suggest that the lead role may go to a rising young actress with strong singing abilities. The film will feature new original songs composed by a team of award-winning musicians, continuing the tradition of memorable music from the animated version.
