Content overview: “Exiled for Art: A Russian Family’s Fight Against Political Oppression”. This is the moving story of a Russian father and his daughter, Maria, whose lives were forever changed by an anti-war drawing. In March 2022, 12-year-old Maria expressed her opposition to the invasion of Ukraine through her artwork at school. Her simple gesture of dissent was immediately reported, leading to an investigation by the FSB that targeted both her and her family at their home.
The situation escalated when Maria's father was arrested and convicted for discrediting the Russian military while defending his daughter's right to speak out. This case highlights the extreme measures taken by the state to suppress dissent and the heavy price families pay for opposing government policy. Their story serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggle for freedom of expression in Russia today. This listing links straight to the original page, where the content is available in full.
