Tehran is currently hosting a large-scale national mourning event as millions gather to honor the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. His body is placed at the Grand Mosalla, where people from various backgrounds come to pay their respects. Authorities expect up to 20 million participants in ceremonies occurring throughout Iran and Iraq, culminating in the burial in Mashhad the following Thursday.
The vast turnout reflects Khamenei's profound influence during his leadership, especially as the country copes with the consequences of the airstrike that caused his death. The event is marked by complex logistics and a strong emotional response from the Iranian public, highlighting the significant role he played in the nation's recent history.
