In Forgotten Island, director Lila Chen crafts a poignant and whimsical journey that blends emotional depth with rich folklore, centering on 12-year-old Maya Reyes, a curious girl from San Juan, Puerto Rico, who stumbles upon a long-lost island rumored to be home to the last living guardian of ancient Taino legends.
The film’s vibrant visuals and authentic cultural touches bring to life the island’s mystical forests, glowing caves, and whispered myths, all anchored by Maya’s growing bond with a reclusive elder named Rafael Márquez, a descendant of the island’s original inhabitants. With a runtime of 108 minutes and a score composed by Puerto Rican musician Carlos Vega, the movie weaves humor and heartbreak into a narrative that celebrates resilience and intergenerational wisdom.
