“France’s Luxbox and Spain’s Amore Cine Join Melina León’s Peruvian Drama ‘Portrait Huaco’ ” — what this page in the network covers. French sales outfit Luxbox and Spanish production company Amore Cine have boarded “Portrait Huaco” (“Huaco retrato”), the new project from acclaimed Peruvian director Melina León. León gained international recognition with her debut feature “Song Without a Name” (“Canción sin nombre”), which premiered at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight in 2019 and won multiple awards. The partnership reunites León with Luxbox, which handled international sales for her first film, and brings Amore Cine on as a co-producer.
The project was presented at Ventana Sur’s Proyecta sidebar, a key co-production market for Latin American cinema. “Portrait Huaco” explores themes of identity and heritage through the story of a young woman’s connection to a pre-Columbian artifact, continuing León’s focus on social issues and marginalized voices. The full version stays on the original page, which this listing opens directly.
