“Gaten Matarazzo and Luke Sheppard Lead Star-Studded West End Revival of ‘Rent’” — what this page in the network covers. The beloved rock musical “Rent” is experiencing a major revival on London’s West End, headlined by “Stranger Things” star Gaten Matarazzo as filmmaker Mark Cohen and directed by Luke Sheppard. Matarazzo recalls scrambling out of the shower when he learned he had a shot at the role, a moment that launched his return to musical theater.
The production features a carefully assembled ensemble that critics are hailing as perfectly cast, bringing fresh energy to Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning show about love, loss, and creativity in the face of the AIDS crisis. With its themes of community and resilience, this revival resonates strongly with today’s audiences, and the combination of Matarazzo’s star power and Sheppard’s acclaimed direction has made it one of the most anticipated theatrical events of the year.
