Gideon Levy, a seasoned journalist and Haaretz columnist, offers a critical perspective on the current Israeli political climate and the escalating conflict in Gaza. In his discussion with FRANCE 24, Levy highlights the impact of political figures such as Ben-Gvir, who he believes adopts a uniformly antagonistic stance toward the people of Gaza. His analysis underscores the challenges posed by this hardline approach amidst ongoing hostilities.
Levy also addresses the broader political dynamics within Israel, noting an increasing reliance on the United States and a surge in nationalist sentiments marked by xenophobia. He points out that the approaching elections are significantly influencing Israeli politics, affecting legislative decisions and efforts toward peace. This electoral pressure contributes to a fraught and complex environment in Tel Aviv, shaping the nation’s domestic and foreign policies during a critical period.
