“Google Fitbit Edge Review 2026: Solid Upgrade, But Missing NFC Is a Puzzling Regression” — what this page in the network covers. The Google Fitbit Edge arrives as a welcome upgrade for longtime Fitbit users, offering meaningful improvements in design, display, and health tracking. However, the absence of NFC technology—a feature present in several previous Fitbit models—stands out as a puzzling regression. This omission means users cannot make contactless payments or use the device for transit or access control, a significant drawback for those who value convenience.
The Edge targets fitness enthusiasts who prioritize core tracking metrics and battery life, but the lack of NFC may push some buyers toward competitors like the Apple Watch or Garmin. In a market where smartwatches increasingly double as digital wallets, Fitbit’s decision to drop NFC could limit the Edge’s appeal.
