Content overview: “Google Quietly Links Phone Numbers Across Android Accounts”. Google has been automatically linking your phone number to all Google accounts on your Android device, according to a new report. When you insert a new SIM card, the phone number becomes associated with every Google account already signed in on that device. Furthermore, any new Google accounts you add later will also inherit that same phone number. This behavior occurs silently, without explicit user notification or consent, raising privacy concerns.
The practice means that a single phone number can become a common identifier across multiple accounts, potentially making it easier for Google to connect your activity across different profiles. Users who value separation between personal and work accounts, or who share devices, may find this particularly troubling. The linking could also impact two-factor authentication and account recovery processes. The full version stays on the original page, which this listing opens directly.
