Content overview: “GTA 6 Barely Makes The Game Awards 2026 Cutoff by One Day, Eyes Record Wins”. Grand Theft Auto 6, the most anticipated title of this console generation, has narrowly secured eligibility for The Game Awards 2026 by just a single day. The game's release date falls exactly one day before the awards' cutoff, making it one of the tightest eligibility calls in the show's history. This razor-thin margin ensures that Rockstar's open-world epic will compete for top honors next year, avoiding a potentially controversial exclusion.
The timing matters because The Game Awards eligibility window typically runs from late November to late November, and GTA 6's launch date sits at the very edge. Had it slipped by even 24 hours, the game would have been pushed to the 2027 ceremony, delaying recognition for what is expected to be a landmark release.
