The London architecture firm CIAO has unveiled an innovative 25-square-metre micro-flat in Islington, challenging conventional ideas about compact urban living. By utilizing a bespoke, multifunctional birch plywood wall, the design team has managed to incorporate a dining area, media console, and extensive storage into a single, cohesive structural element.
This design strategy effectively reclaims precious floor space, creating a fluid, open-plan environment that feels significantly larger than its actual dimensions. CIAO’s project serves as a compelling case study for how thoughtful joinery and material selection can transform small footprints into sophisticated, livable sanctuaries. By prioritizing adaptability and minimalist aesthetics, the flat provides a blueprint for the future of urban density, proving that modular, smart design is the key to maintaining a high quality of life in increasingly space-constrained city centers.
