A United Airlines flight en route to Newark Liberty International Airport collided with a streetlight and a tractor-trailer on the New Jersey Turnpike just outside the airport’s boundary. The incident occurred on Sunday during the aircraft’s approach, causing injuries to the truck driver involved. United Flight 169, a Boeing 767 carrying more than 200 passengers and ten crew members, was reported to be at a high speed as it passed over the highway. Authorities are investigating the exact conditions that led to the aircraft striking ground-level structures.
The New Jersey State Police confirmed the collision and noted the ongoing inquiry into the cause. No fatalities have been reported, but the event has raised concerns about airspace safety near major airports.
