Jonathan Mostow's 1997 thriller "Breakdown," now streaming on Prime Video, remains a masterclass in suspense, featuring powerful performances from Kurt Russell and Ray Liotta. The film follows an ordinary couple, Jeff and Amy Taylor, whose cross-country road trip turns into a terrifying ordeal when they stop to help a stranded motorist.
This seemingly simple act of kindness leads to their violent separation and a desperate fight for survival as Jeff is pursued by a ruthless gang led by the menacing Earl (Liotta). Russell delivers a compelling performance as the everyman hero pushed to his limits, while Liotta is chillingly effective as the calculating antagonist.
