Lebanon has formally protested the upcoming negotiations between Israel and Lebanon, scheduled to begin in Washington on Tuesday. The talks focus on defining a maritime border between the two nations, but tensions are high as Israel demands that Lebanon disarm Hezbollah, a powerful armed group operating within its territory. This condition is considered unrealistic by many observers, with concerns that enforcing it could destabilize Lebanon’s fragile political balance and potentially trigger civil conflict.
Analysts warn that such internal strife might serve Israel’s strategic interests, even if indirectly. The protests reflect deep public skepticism over the potential outcomes of the talks and fears about national sovereignty and security. As regional dynamics shift, the situation remains volatile, with international attention focused on how diplomacy can prevent escalation while addressing long-standing disputes.
