London Zoo is launching a new wildlife health center as part of its 200th anniversary celebrations, supported by a £20 million donation from an anonymous donor. The facility will serve as a leading medical hub for animal care, equipped with advanced diagnostic tools and treatment spaces designed to improve the health and survival rates of zoo animals. It also aims to strengthen conservation efforts by supporting research and emergency response for endangered species.
The center will feature transparent observation areas allowing visitors to witness veterinary procedures, including post-mortems, in real time. This innovative approach seeks to deepen public understanding of animal health and the importance of wildlife conservation. BBC News reporter Justin Rowlatt was granted exclusive access to the current animal hospital, offering insight into the capabilities and vision behind the new center’s development.
