Content overview: “Luis Gerardo Méndez Talks Ben Affleck’s ‘Animals,’ Immigration Fears: ‘You Could Be Next’”. Mexican actor Luis Gerardo Méndez, known for ‘Club de Cuervos,’ stars in Ben Affleck’s new thriller ‘Animals,’ which premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. Méndez was surprised when Affleck personally reached out to cast him, noting the script came with a note from the Oscar winner expressing his desire to work together. The film, also starring Affleck and Gillian Anderson, follows a mayoral candidate’s son who is kidnapped, with Méndez playing a key role tied to the family’s secrets.
Beyond the film, Méndez has become an outspoken advocate for immigrant rights, a topic that hits close to home. He has publicly criticized anti-immigrant rhetoric, warning that harsh policies could affect anyone: ‘You could be next.’ His comments come as immigration remains a divisive issue in the U.S., with increased deportations and political tension.
