The United States and the Philippines have initiated their largest joint military exercise to date, called Balikatan, involving more than 17,000 personnel. These extensive drills aim to strengthen regional security amid rising tensions due to China's increasing assertiveness in nearby waters. For the first time, French soldiers are participating in the exercises, made possible by a new Visiting Forces Agreement between France and the Philippines.
This collaboration marks a significant step in multinational defense efforts to uphold stability and protect maritime interests in the region. The large-scale training simulations emphasize the shared commitment of allied forces to respond tactically to potential security challenges, reinforcing cooperation between the involved nations.
