A closer look at “Michael Che Dodges Questions About Shane Gillis SNL Joke Backlash in Awkward Today Show In”, exactly as the source publishes it. Michael Che faced an uncomfortable moment on the Today show when pressed about the backlash over Shane Gillis's controversial joke on Saturday Night Live. The 'Weekend Update' co-host, who anticipated the line of questioning, responded with a terse 'I didn't think about it, honestly,' signaling his reluctance to engage with the controversy. Che had earlier joked on social media about having to 'do more press this week to promote' the show, hinting at his awareness of the impending scrutiny.
The exchange highlights the delicate position SNL cast members find themselves in when a guest comedian's material sparks outrage, as they balance personal opinions with professional obligations. Gillis, who was fired from SNL in 2019 over past racist remarks, returned as host and delivered a monologue that drew criticism for a joke about Asian Americans.
