Microsoft has reversed its earlier move to include a dedicated Copilot key on new keyboards, signaling a shift in its approach to AI integration within hardware. This change reflects growing uncertainty about the necessity of physical AI controls in everyday computing devices. The decision prompts broader discussion across the tech industry about how traditional software companies are adapting their strategies when designing physical interfaces for artificial intelligence features. As AI becomes more embedded in operating systems, the role of hardware buttons remains under scrutiny, especially as users may prefer software-based access over dedicated keys.
