A closer look at “Moana Live-Action Remake Gets Disney+ Streaming Date After Disappointing Box Office”, exactly as the source publishes it. Disney has confirmed that the live-action adaptation of Moana will begin streaming on Disney+ on March 12, 2025, following a theatrical run that fell short of expectations. The film, starring Catherine Laga‘aia as Moana and Dwayne Johnson reprising his role as Maui, opened in theaters on November 27, 2024, but struggled to recoup its reported $150 million production budget, earning just $98 million domestically and $210 million worldwide.
The early streaming debut—just 105 days after its theatrical release—signals a strategic pivot for Disney, which has faced mixed results with its recent live-action remakes. While the original 2016 animated Moana remains a beloved franchise with strong streaming numbers, this remake’s performance highlights the challenges of translating animated classics into live-action hits.
