NASA Plans to Launch Artemis II on April 1

NASA intends to launch the Artemis II mission no later than April 1, using the Space Launch System rocket. This flight will carry four astronauts on a journey around the Moon, marking a significant step in NASA’s plan to return humans to lunar space. Lori Glaze, acting associate administrator for exploration systems development, confirmed the target date during a briefing with reporters. The mission will test key systems needed for future crewed landings and serve as a critical precursor to Artemis III.

The Artemis II mission is part of a broader effort to establish sustainable human presence on the Moon. It will be the first crewed flight of the Space Launch System and Orion spacecraft since Artemis I, which launched in 2022. The astronauts will perform a circumlunar trajectory, gathering data on spacecraft performance and crew safety in deep space. These preparations support long-term goals including lunar surface operations and eventual missions to Mars.
