A closer look at “Netflix and Ester Expósito Team with Mar Coll for Bold Film Adaptation of Spanish Classic ”, exactly as the source publishes it. In a surprise announcement, Netflix is joining forces with ‘Elite’ star Ester Expósito and Locarno-winning director Mar Coll to bring Leopoldo Alas ‘Clarín’s’ towering 19th-century novel ‘La Regenta’ to the screen. The feature, which began filming on October 23, is produced by María Zamora of Elastica Films, the company behind acclaimed titles like ‘Alcarràs’ and ‘Romería.’ The project was kept under wraps until this week, making it one of the most unexpected Spanish literary adaptations in recent memory.
Coll, known for her sharp, character-driven storytelling, promises a ‘fresh female perspective’ on the classic, which has long been regarded as a cornerstone of Spanish literature. Expósito, who rose to international fame through Netflix’s teen thriller series, steps into a demanding period role that marks a significant departure from her previous work.
