“Netflix Revives ‘Lonesome Dove’ with New Adaptation, Writer Jeb Stuart Teases Untold Story” — what this page in the network covers. Netflix is officially bringing back the Pulitzer Prize-winning Western epic Lonesome Dove with a new adaptation, and screenwriter Jeb Stuart is already hinting at fresh material. Stuart, known for Die Hard and The Fugitive, points out that Larry McMurtry’s 900-page novel offers plenty of storylines the beloved 1989 miniseries never covered. The original TV event starred Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones, winning seven Emmys and cementing the tale of Texas Rangers Woodrow Call and Augustus McCrae in pop culture.
Now, more than three decades later, Netflix aims to reintroduce the saga to a new generation. While casting and release dates remain unannounced, Stuart’s involvement suggests a commitment to the novel’s depth and grit. For fans of Westerns and prestige drama, this revival could expand the Lonesome Dove universe beyond the familiar trail drive to include overlooked characters and subplots.
