A closer look at “New Mexico Lobos' Historic Scoring Defense Puts Them in Playoff Contention”, exactly as the source publishes it. The New Mexico Lobos are making a case for a playoff berth behind a scoring defense that ranks among the best in modern FBS history. Statistically, the Lobos are allowing points at a rate rarely seen since the turn of the century, a feat that has turned heads across college football.
Head coach Bronco Mendenhall's unit has been suffocating opponents, giving up just 11.2 points per game through the first half of the season—a mark that would be the lowest in the FBS since 2011. This defensive dominance has propelled New Mexico to a 6-1 record, their best start since 1997, and has fans in Albuquerque dreaming of a Mountain West title and a possible New Year's Six bowl appearance.
