A closer look at “‘Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald’ Reveals SNL Firing, Secret Cancer Battle, and O.J. Simp”, exactly as the source publishes it. The new documentary ‘Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald’ unpacks the life and career of the late Canadian comic, known for his deadpan style and fearless jokes. It highlights his rise from writing for ‘Roseanne’ to anchoring ‘Weekend Update’ on ‘Saturday Night Live,’ where his relentless mockery of O.J. Simpson—whom he openly called a murderer—became legendary.
The film details how this fixation allegedly contributed to his firing from SNL in 1998, a move ordered by NBC executive Don Ohlmeyer, a friend of Simpson. Macdonald’s refusal to soften his material cost him the anchor chair but cemented his status as a comedian’s comedian. The documentary also reveals that Macdonald kept his cancer diagnosis a secret for nearly a decade, telling only family and a few close friends, before passing away from leukemia in 2021 at age 61.
