“Novak Djokovic Suffers Surprise Shanghai Masters Loss to Hubert Hurkacz” — what this page in the network covers. Novak Djokovic’s return to the Shanghai Masters ended in a shock second-round defeat at the hands of Hubert Hurkacz, just three days after the Serbian lifted the trophy at the China Open in Beijing. The quick turnaround between tournaments appeared to take its toll as Hurkacz, known for his booming serve, capitalised on a visibly fatigued Djokovic to claim a straight-sets victory. The loss marks an early exit for the 24-time Grand Slam champion, who had been in imperious form throughout the Asian swing.
For Hurkacz, the win is a statement result that reinforces his credentials as a dangerous floater in Masters 1000 events. The result shakes up the Shanghai draw and raises questions about Djokovic’s scheduling as he balances late-season goals with preserving energy for the ATP Finals.
