Wildfires continue to spread across southern France and Spain, with emergency operations underway amid worsening conditions. In France, a large fire near Bordeaux has burned thousands of hectares, prompting evacuations and triggering lightning storms due to extreme heat. Firefighters are working under difficult conditions, hampered by strong winds and high temperatures, while aerial support is being used to combat the flames. In Spain, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has visited affected regions near Valencia, where thousands have been displaced. Authorities are holding crisis meetings to assess damage and coordinate response efforts.
The fires are linked to an ongoing heatwave and prolonged drought, factors that experts say are intensifying wildfire risks. Climate scientists emphasize that rising global temperatures increase the likelihood of such extreme events. Both nations are deploying additional resources and seeking international aid to manage the crisis.
