The AUKUS alliance between the UK, US, and Australia is advancing a major defense initiative focused on autonomous undersea systems. These uncrewed underwater vehicles are set to become operational by 2027, enhancing maritime surveillance and security across the Indo-Pacific region. The project underscores a strategic move toward integrating artificial intelligence and robotics into naval operations. Three UK-based companies have received a combined £3 million in funding through a dedicated maritime innovation challenge, supporting research and development in this field. The announcement followed a defense ministers’ meeting held in Singapore, reinforcing the partnership’s commitment to long-term naval cooperation.
