Wayne Rooney has called for the introduction of VAR in football following a series of high-profile errors during the FA Cup weekend. Speaking out after controversial decisions impacted key matches, Rooney emphasized that referees are human and therefore prone to mistakes, especially under pressure. He argued that technology like VAR is essential to ensure fairness and accuracy in critical moments of the game.
The former England captain stressed that while officials do their best, modern football demands tools to support decision-making. With the stakes so high in knockout competitions, he believes that relying solely on human judgment is no longer sufficient. Rooney's comments reflect growing calls within the football community for more consistent use of video review systems across all levels of the sport.
