Overlook is a thoughtfully designed black cabin situated among the Ponderosa pines in McCall, Idaho. Created by architect CJ Pennington, co-founder of Altruist, this retreat reflects a personal connection to the region and serves as an exploration of how memory shapes architectural forms. The cabin’s design carefully considers its forest surroundings, resulting in a structure that stands out with a bold exterior yet remains deeply rooted in its natural setting.
The project embodies a harmonious relationship between the built environment and the landscape, emphasizing a dialogue between the cabin and the woods. This approach fosters a tranquil atmosphere and a lasting presence within the forest. Overlook is both a private sanctuary and a creative expression of Pennington’s architectural vision, demonstrating a strong commitment to designs that resonate with their location.
