Poland is currently facing a debate over managing its increasing elk population, a species protected by law. Conservationists highlight the successful recovery of elk, particularly in Biebrza National Park, stressing their ecological importance. However, some farmers express concern over the extensive crop damage caused by the growing numbers of elk. Additionally, media reports point to a rise in fatal road accidents involving these large animals, raising public safety issues.
These conflicting viewpoints have sparked calls for reintroducing hunting measures to control the population. This proposal meets resistance from advocates who support ongoing protection efforts to maintain ecological balance. The discussion reflects the challenge of balancing wildlife conservation with agricultural interests and public safety in Poland.
