President Trump has spoken publicly about his role in the review of a controversial red card given to US soccer player Folarin Balogun. He explained that he asked FIFA to take another look at the decision, believing the player had not committed a foul during the game. After the review, the red card was suspended, allowing Balogun to participate in the important round of 16 match against Belgium.
Despite his public support for Balogun, Trump emphasized that he did not directly influence the final ruling. He told reporters that his request was based on his observation that Balogun’s actions were fair, but he acknowledged that the ultimate outcome depended on FIFA’s formal review process. This situation highlights the intersection of sports and public attention at the highest levels.
