Rep. Eric Swalwell, a Democrat representing California, has announced his resignation from the U.S. House of Representatives amid allegations of sexual misconduct. The announcement comes after multiple reports detailed accusations from several individuals, prompting calls for his departure from both political leaders and constituents. Swalwell did not provide specific details about the allegations but confirmed he would step down effective immediately.
The news has drawn widespread attention, with media outlets covering the developments and examining the broader implications for congressional conduct. While the investigation into the claims continues, Swalwell’s decision to leave office reflects growing scrutiny over ethical standards among public officials. His resignation will trigger a special election to fill the vacant seat in California’s 14th congressional district.
