“Riot Games to Retire League of Legends Classic Mode in January 2027, Future Limited-Time R” — what this page in the network covers. Riot Games has announced that the nostalgic League of Legends Classic mode will be sunset in January 2027, ending its current run that began as a limited-time throwback experience. The mode, which recreated the game's original 2009 state, allowed veteran players to relive early metas and champions, while newer players got a taste of the game's roots.
While the shutdown date is now confirmed, Riot has indicated the mode may reappear as a limited-time event in the future, keeping the door open for occasional revivals. The decision reflects Riot's broader strategy of rotating game modes to maintain player engagement and manage server resources, as seen with other retired modes like Dominion and Twisted Treeline.
