Russia hits Unesco heritage site in Ukraine in rare daytime drone attack | BBC News

Russia conducted a rare daytime drone assault on Ukraine's western cities, deploying over 400 drones during the attack. Among the targets was the Bernardine Monastery in Lviv, a historic site recognized by UNESCO dating back to the 16th century. The monastery sustained damage, with nearby residential buildings also affected, as evidenced by footage showing a fire consuming a rooftop close to the site.

The strike also resulted in casualties, with two fatalities confirmed in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. Reports mention that four individuals, including a young child, were injured during the incident. This attack represents a significant escalation in the conflict, given the scale and choice of heritage and civilian targets in Ukraine's western territories.
